Overview
Almost all Torterra from old expansions don't have very good attacks and even if some of their attack have high damage, you still need a lot of Energy to use those attacks. The new Torterra surpass all the old Torterra in terms of HP and Damage. For SIngle Prize Pokemon, Torterra has high HP of 190 and it might be able to take 2 attacks from some of the Pokemon V. Like the previous Torterra, this Torterra is not retreat-friendly as you need 4 Energy to retreat it.
Torterra first attack, Evo Press is the reason that makes it stands out from the rest of the Torterra. Just for mere 2 Energy [ 1 Grass Energy and 1 Colorless Energy], this attack does 50 damage for each of your Evolution Pokemon in play. Note that both Stage 1 and Stage 2 are counted as Evolution Pokemon. Evo Press can deal up to 300 damage with 6 of your Evolution Pokemon in play. Setting up 6 Evolution Pokemon in play is not hard at all as you can use Trainers and Pokemon Ability to evolve your Pokemon.
You can ignore Torterra second attack Hammer In as this attack needs 4 Energy [1 Grass Energy and 3 Colorless Energy] and only has 160 damage. So, we won't be using this attack in this deck since we already have better attack, Evopress.
Grotle Ability Sunlit Shell can enhance Torterra attack, Evopress. This Ability let you search 1 Grass Pokemon from your deck during your turn. So, you can use this Ability to evolve your Grass Pokemon in play and add damage to Torterra Evopress attack. Even if you have no Pokemon to evolve, you can still use this Ability to find Basic Grass Pokemon from your deck and evolve it during your next turn.
Pokemon Setup
There must be always full Pokemon in your Bench so that you will be always ready to evolve those Pokemon during your turn. And, this will maximize Torterra Evopress damage.
As mentioned earlier, 1 of the Energy needed for Evopress is Colorless Energy and you can use Colorless Energy. Attaching Capture Energy to Torterra, let you put 1 Basic Pokemon from your deck onto your Bench. On the other hand, Truffield Stadium let you find 1 Evolution Grass Pokemon from your deck and you can use that Pokemon to evolve your Benched Grass Pokemon. To put it simply, attach Capture Energy to find Basic Pokemon while use Turffield Stadium to evolve those Basic Benched Pokemon or Stage 1 Benched Pokemon.
When it comes to finding Trainers from your deck, no card can beat Shady Dealings Ability. This Ability let you find 1 or 2 Trainer Cards when you evolve Sobble into Drizzile or Drizzile into Inteleon. You can use this Ability to setup your Benched Pokemon efficiently by finding and using the right Trainer. For instance, Items such as Quick Ball, Level Ball, Evolution Incense or Rare Candy be found using Shady Dealings and you can use the effects of those Items to either find or evolve your Pokemon.
Energy Setup
Although you don't really need to accelerate Energy for Torterra, it is still good to have backup Energy Acceleration plan in your deck in case you need to attach 2 Energy to Torterra in 1 turn to use its attack immediately. In the current Standard Format, Cherrim Ability Spring Bloom is the best Ability to accelerate Grass Energy to your Single Prize Pokemon. This Ability let you attach Grass Energy from your hand as often as you like during your turn. Basically, you can attach all your Grass Energy from your hand to all your Torterra in a single turn by using this Ability.
Increase Damage
Even with the massive 300 damage from Evopress, you can still can't OHKO most of the Pokemon VMAX since they have around 320 HP. So, there is a need to increase Evopress damage. The new Pokemon Tool, Choice Belt increases the attack of Pokemon by 30 damage when attacking Pokemon V. Note that Basic Pokemon V, Pokemon VMAX, Pokemon VSTAR are considered Pokemon V. With the help of Choice Belt, Torterra Evopress can now deal 330 damage and can OHKO most of the Pokemon VMAX.
Draw Supporter
The new draw Supporter, Cynthia's Aspiration let you draw until you have 5 cards in your hand. In addition, the Supporter let you draw until you have 8 cards if at least 1 of your Pokemon was knocked out during your last time. Since only Single Prize Pokemon are used in this deck, your Pokemon can be easily OHKO by your opponent Pokemon VMAX. Thus, you will be able to draw until your have 8 cards in your by using Cynthia's Aspiration.
Alternatively, you can use Professor's Research to draw 7 cards by discarding your entire hand. This effect is good for the situations when your hands has very few cards or your hands is full with non-usuable cards.
