Description
Pull lightning and torrential rain out of the air for Dragon Impact, and rebuild your power with Dragonite’s Hurricane Charge Ability! Thundurus and Tornadus join the fray to keep foes reeling as you hold the high ground with the Soaring Storm theme deck!
Strategies
Not only most of the Pokemon in this Theme Deck are Attackers except for Grimer but also they have High Damage Attack.
Start with Thundurus as an Active Pokemon since its Attack Thunderous Gale has only 2 Colorless Energy Cost. This Attack has Base Damage of 20 and can be increase to 70 if you have Tornadus on your Bench. 70 Damage is very worth it for just 2 Colorless Energy for Basic Pokemon which can Knock Out most of the Basic Pokemon. The other Attack Raging Thunder has Heavy Damage of 120 (3 Energy Cost Attack) but in exchange you have to put 40 Damage on 1 of your Benched Pokemon.
Similar to Thundurus Attack Thunderous Gale, Tornadus Attack Thunderous Tornado (Base Damage 80 ) has an extra effect if you have Thundurus on Bench. This extra effect allows you to put 20 Damage on each of your opponent's Benched Pokemon. This effect is really come in handy when your opponents try to retreat Dying Pokemon or has a lot of Low HP Basic Pokemon on his or her Bench.
Since you need either Thundurus or Tornadus to put on your Bench to use their Attacks extra effect respectively, you can use Pokemon Fan Club, Supporter Card to get both of them from your Deck and put 1 of them on Bench and the other as an Active Pokemon depending on your need.
Pidgeot is recommended to use in the late game because of Pidgeotto's Ability and its Attack Spin Storm. Although the Attack Spin Storm has no Damage, it comes with the powerful effect of putting your opponent's Active Pokemon and all cards attached to it into his or her hand. This effect is very good in countering against your opponent's Active Pokemon with 3 or more Energy or Stage 2 Pokemon. Since once you use Spin Storm effect, your opponent has no choice but need to redo Evolving his or her main Pokemon and Attaching Energies to it. When your opponent is busy doing the above process, you can use Pidgeot's Attack Whirlwind (60 Damage) to Knock Out Remaining Weak Pokemon. Also, note that Pidgeot's Whirlwind has an effect of required your opponent's Active Pokemon to switch with 1 of their Benched Pokemon.
The sooner you get Dragonite in play, the more likely that you are going to win the game. Because Dragonite has Powerful Ability Hurricane Charge that allow you to Attach 1 Water Energy and 1 Electric Energy from your Hand to your Pokemon in any way you like every turn. Basically, you are attaching 2 Extra Energy to 1 of your Pokemon and most of your Pokemon can use their 3 Energy Cost High Damage Attack without waiting to attach Energy for another two more turns.
In addition, Dragonite other Attack Dragon Impact has very huge Damage of 170 ( 4 Energy Cost Attack) and this Attack can Knock Out any Pokemon in Theme Deck Battle. However, you have Discard 3 Energy Cards from Dragonite after using the Attack. If you have no Energy Cards left in your Hand, you can use Fisherman Supporter Card to put back 3 Discarded Energy in your Hand and use the Attack one more time again. You can also use Energy Recycle System to recover Energy from your Discard Pile to either your Hand (Recover 1 Energy: if you have 2 Energy in your Hand you can use Dragonite Attack Again) or Deck (Recover 3 Energy).
Since Dragonite Attack require Huge Amount of Energy, it is recommended to counter against your opponent's High HP Pokemon. Otherwise, it is still better to use other Pokemon like Thundurus or Lanturn to Knock Out your Opponent's Pokemon.
Although the damage from Lightning Strike is 70 Damage, you still have an option to increase the damage to 140 by discarding all Electric Energy Cards attached to it. It is recommended to attach one Water Energy and two Electric Energy Cards to it. This is to prevent from discarding all energy cards from it when you decide to go with 140 Damage.
The last Trainer Card I wanted to introduce is the Pokemon Communication Item Card. You can use it when you need certain Pokemon to win the game by switching 1 Pokemon from your Hand with the Pokemon you wanted from your Deck.
