Overview
Dracozolt VMAX has second highest HP of 330 among Pokemon VMAX. Since it is Electric type, it has an Fighting Weakness. Unfortunately, it has no resistance otherwise it will be much tougher. Retreating Dracozolt is not easy at all because it requires 3 Energy to retreat.
Spark Trap, the first attack of Dracozolt VMAX has 60 base damage and has a counter effect of putting 12 damage counters on your opponent's attacking Pokemon during next turn. In other words, this attack does 180 damage on your opponent's Active Pokemon if your opponent does not switch his or her Active Pokemon. Surprisingly, you only need 1 Lightning Energy to use this attack and not many Pokemon offer this kinds of generous damage for 1 Energy.
The other attack, Max Impact has 200 damage but the attack requires 4 Energy [1 Lightning Energy and 3 Colorless Energy]. Compare with other Pokemon VMAX Max or G-Max attacks, Max Impact can be considered very disappointing because a lot of Pokemon VMAX can easily deal 200+ plus damage with 3 Energy. For that reason, it is more practical to focus on building deck around Spark Trap.
The pre-evolution, Dracozolt V first attack, Primeval Beak also has very useful effect although this attack has very low 30 base damage. This attack prevents Defending Pokemon from attaching Energy during next turn and you only need 1 Lightning Energy to use this attack. With this control effect, your opponent has left with 2 choices : either attach Energy on another Benched attacker or don't attach Energy at all. Stalling your opponent also let your Dracozolt V survive longer before it evolves into Dracozolt VMAX.
Dracozolt V second attack, Mountain Swing is as disappointing as Max Impact. Although this attack has 180 decent damage for 2 Lightning Energy and 1 Colorless Energy, the attack's effect forces you to discard top 3 cards of your deck. Discarding cards from your deck doesn't bring any benefit to your strategy when your are building deck around Spark Trap.
Healing
It is best to play Dracozolt VMAX alone without putting any Benched Pokemon. Otherwise, your opponent might switch your Benched Pokemon using Trainers like Boss's Order or Escape Rope and cancel Spark Trap 12 damage counters effect. Since there is only Dracozolt VMAX in your field, it is important to have healing cards in your deck to prevent it from knocking out.
In terms of healing, Cheryl is the best trainers as it fully heal all damage from your Evolution Pokemon in exchange for discarding all Energy from that Pokemon. Discarding Energy from Dracozolt VMAX is not a problem because Spark Trap only requires 1 Energy to use and you can manually attach 1 Energy from your hand to Dracozolt VMAX even after its Energy were discarded.
If Dracozolt VMAX has only few damage counters, Lucky Ice Pop and Moomoo Cheese should be used to heal and save Cheryl for the situation when your opponent use high damage attack [ around 200 damage]. Lucky Ice Pop heals 20 damage and let you flip a coin, if head you can put it into your hand while Moomoo Cheese heals 30 from 2 of your Pokemon that have Energy attached. Since these 2 Cards are Items, you can use them as many as you want during your turn.
Make it tougher
Dracozolt VMAX can become tougher by either increasing HP or damage reduction through Pokemon Tool. There is no point in increasing HP for Dracozolt VMAX as it is very difficult to OHKO 330 HP of Dracozolt VMAX. Unlike increasing HP, damage reduction effect applies every turn.
For example, if you increases your Pokemon HP by 20 and takes 20 damage. Then, your Pokemon HP will become original HP. After that, if your Pokemon takes 20 damage again, it will have 20 less HP. On the other hand, if you apply 20 damage reduction effect on your Pokemon, your Pokemon will always maintain full HP as long as the incoming attack has 20 damage.
Right now, the only available damage reduction Pokemon Tool available for Dracozolt VMAX is Full Face Guard which provides 20 damage reduction effect.
Draw Support
There is no draw support Pokemon like Crobat V in this deck so we can only rely on Trainers. Kabu is perfect card for solo Dracozolt VMAX strategy as it allows you to shuffle your hand and draw 8 cards if you have only 1 Pokemon in play. As long as you have no Benched Pokemon, you can always draw 8 cards using Kabu.
Speed Energy not only provides 1 Energy for Spark Trap also let you draws 2 cards when you attach this card to Dracozolt VMAX.
