Morpeko V (Sword & Shield)

Overview

A cute little hamster, Morpeko V has low HP of 170 and this can be expected since its DEF and Sp.Def are not that great in Sword & Shield Games. It is quite strange for Morpeko V's to have Retreat Cost with 2 Energy because it is supposed to be agile Pokemon. However, when it evolves into Morpeko VMax, its Retreat Cost has become 1. Logically, bigger Pokemon are supposed to be slower like Lapras V (2 Retreat Cost) and Laparas Vmax (3 Retreat Cost). This has probably have to do with Morpeko V's Attack.

Morepeko V's second Attack Electric Wheel has 150 Damage and has an effect that forces it to switch it with 1 of your Benched Pokemon and discard 1 Energy from it. Basically, this is "Attack and Run" tactics which prevent Morpeko V from taking any Damage. You can also find similar effect from pld sets such as Sawbuck's Bounce, Hitmonchan's Hit and Run and Donphan's Spinning Turn etc. But, all those Pokemon Attacks are not as strong as Mopeko V's Electric Wheel Attack.

Morpeko V's other Attack Spark has 20 Damage and does 20 Damage to 1 of your opponent's Benched Pokemon (Don't apply Weakness & Resistance on Benched Pokemon). This Attack cost only 1 Colorless Energy and is great for spreading Damage in the early game.

Morpeko VMax's Attack Hyper Discharge has 10 Damage and does 20 Damage to each of your opponent's Benched Pokemon (Don't apply Weakness & Resistance on Benched Pokemon). This is just a better version of Morpeko V's first Attack Spark.

Attack and Run

You can take advantage of Morpeko V's Electric Wheel Attack to switch it with Lillie's Poke Doll (Standard) from your Bench. Lillie's Poke Doll has 30 HP and you will not give any Prize Card when it is Knocked Out. In addition, if it is an Active Pokemon, you can discard it from play and put it on the bottom of your Deck at any time during your turn.

With Lillie's Poke Doll, your Morpeko V won't take any Damage from your opponent's Pokemon Attacks in Standard Format unless your opponent have Custom Catcher, Pokemon Catcher or Ninetales (TEU). Still, your opponent can Bench Snipe your Morpeko V. Don't worry, you can use Mew with Ability Bench Barrier (Standard) to prevent all Damage done to your Benched Pokemon

If you run out of Lillie's Poke Doll, you can use Florges's Ability Wondrous Gift (Standard) to recycle Lillie's Poke Doll from your Discard Pile and put it on top of your Deck. However, this Ability only allows you to recycle when you managed to get Head from flipping a coin.

Recycle Energy

You need to discard 1 Energy when using Morpeko V's Electric Wheel. Since Electric Wheel requires 1 Colorless Energy, you can attach Recycle Energy (Standard) to Morpeko V. Then, you can discard Recycle Energy when using Electric Wheel and this Energy Card will be put into your Hand instead of Discard Pile. Doing so, you will not run out of Lighting Energy Cards.

Increase Damage

Although Electric Wheel is great Attack, its Damage (150) is still not strong enough to Knock Out Basic V Pokemon. Here are some Item Cards to increase Electric Wheel Damage.
  • Electropower (Standard) increases the Electric Wheel Damage by 30.
  • Fine Band (Stand) increases the Electric Wheel Damage by 10.

By using these 2 Item Cards, Electric Wheel with now deal 190 Damage (150 + 30 + 10 ) which is strong enough to Knock Out Basic V Pokemon with HP ranging from 170 to 190. The Damage can be furthered increased by using 2 or more Electropower.

Energy Acceleration

Having Thunder Mountain (Standard) as Stadium, you will only need 2 Energy (1 Lighting and 1 Colorless) to use Electric Wheel Attack.

If you discarded Lighting Energy from using Electric Wheel, you can re-attach those Electric Energy from your Discard Pile to Mopeko V by using Tapu Koko's Ability Dance of the Ancient (Standard). This Ability allows you to attach a Lightning Energy Card to 2 of your Benched Pokemon.

Set Up

You can use Guzma & Hala (Standard) to find Recycle Energy, Thunder Mountain and Fine Band from your Deck and put those cards into your Hand by discarding 2 Cards from your Hand.
