Lapras V (Sword & Shield)

 Overview

Lapras V is quite a tanky Pokemon since it has 210 HP for being Basic Pokemon. If you look at its Weakness, you will notice that it is Lightning now. From the previous expansion, Lapras's Weakness is mostly Grass and sometimes its Weakness is Metal. This can be either good or bad depending on the popularity of Lightning Pokemon in upcoming Sword & Shield Expansion.

Lapras V's second Attack Ocean Recycle has massive Damage of 210 and you will need 4 Energy to use this Attack. After using this Attack, you need to return 2 Energy from Lapras V to your Hand. 210 Damage for 4 Energy is great deal since it is strong enough to Knock Out most of the Basic V Pokemon. But, the problem is that you need to re-attach 2 Energy again which takes 2 more turns. So, you definitely need support cards that accelerate Energy Set Up.

Its other Attack Homing Wave is mainly for Energy Set Up for Lapras V. This Attack allows you to attach 1 Water Energy from your Hand to Lapras V and then switch it with 1 of your Benched Pokemon. You can use this effect to attach 2 Energy to Lapras V within 1 Turn.

Its Evolution Lapras VMax is also equip with powerful attack G-Max Pump. This attack has 90 Base Damage and does 30 more Damage for each Water Energy attached to Lapras VMax. If you have 4 Water Energy attached to Lapras VMax, you will get 210 Damage (90 + 30*4). This is the same amount of Damage as Lapras V's Ocean Recycle Attack. Unlike Ocean Recycle Attack, G-Max Pump doesn't require you to return 2 Energy from Lapras VMax to deal same amount of Damage.

Energy Set Up

Lapras V Attack requires high Energy Cost although its Attack has massive Damage. If you are planning to attach 1 Energy for every turn, your Lapras V might Knock Out before using its Attack Ocean Recycle. Here are some of the cards that will help you to accelerate Energy Setup for Lapras V.

Standard

Frosmoth's Ability Ice Dance allows you to may attach Water Energy card from your Hand to 1 of your Pokémon as often as you like during your turn (before your attack). This means you can attach 4 Energy from your Hand to either Lapras V or Lapras VMax within 1 Turn to use their respective Attack. Since, Frosmoth is Stage 1 Pokemon, evolving it from Snom is also not a difficult task.

To use Frosmoth's Ability Ice Dance, you need to have Water Energy in your Hand. Following Trainers will help you pull Energy Card from your Deck an put them into your Hand.

Standard

Lady(Supporter) allows you to search 4 Basic Energy Cards from your Deck and put them into your Hand.

Expanded

Professor's Letter(Item) allows you to search 2 Basic Energy Cards from your Deck and put thine into your Hand.
