Towering Heights

Description

Take the High Ground!

The Legendary Groudon is ready to smash foes, with Garchomp at its side! Use Seismitoad’s Bulldoze Ability for power searches, and call on Lady for extra Energy and Throh for big attacks. Strike from above with the Towering Heights theme deck!

Strategies

Groundon is the best Pokemon to start the game due to its effect to set up Energy and High Attack Damage.

Its Attack Drought allows you to attach 2 Fighting Energy from your Hand to 1 of your Pokemon. This effect can be used to set up Energy for main Attacker such as Groudon, Throh, Garchomp or Seismitoad. If you don't have Fighting Energy in your Hand to use Drought, Lady (Supporter) can be used to put 4 Fighting Energy into your Hand from your Deck.

The other Attack Tremling Ground has high Damage of 130 although you can't use this Attack during your next turn.

Pokemon Fan Club (Supporter) can be used to find Groudon from your Deck if it is not in your Hand during the early game. Getting Groundon in the early game will definitely put you in advantage.

Seismitoad can be used as both Late Game Attacker and Draw Support. It's Ability Bulloze allows you to search a Card from your Deck and put that Card on top of it. On the other hand, it's Attack Tremulous Fist has 80 Base Damage and does 30 extra Damage for each of your Pokemon that has any Damage Counter on it. So, you will get max Damage of 230 (80 + 30*5) if all of your five Pokemon have any Damage Counter on them. Since this Attack cost 4 Energy, Groudon's Attack Drought can be used for quick Energy Setup.

To get massive Damage from Tremulous Fist, there must be Damage Counters on your most of the Benched Pokemon. The best way to put minimum Damage Counter (10 Damage) on each of your Benched Pokemon is to use Palpitoad's Attack Mini Earthquake. In addition, this Attack also decent Damage of 60 just for 1 Fighting Energy.

Mini Earthquake can also benefit Throh's Attack Reverse Shoulder Throw. Although Throh's Attack has very Low Base Damage of 30. this Attack does extra 90 Damage if there is any Benched Damage Counter on your Benched Pokemon. 120 Damage for 2 Energy makes this Pokemon a great early Attacker.

Garchomp has second highest Damage in this Theme Deck after Seismitoad. It's Attack Over Slice 80 Base Damage and does extra 40 Damage if you discards an Energy from it. On top of that it will deal extra 80 more damage if you have more Prize cards than your opponent. This is due to it's Ability Avenging Aura. The maximum Damage you can get from this Attack is  200 (80+40+80). Only 2 Energy is required to use this Attack.

Another great thing about Garchomp is that it has no Retreat Cost. This means you can always switch it back with another Pokemon when you have less Prize Cards than your opponent. Discarding Energy from Over Slice to increase Damage is not always a good idea since there is no way to recover Energy Cards in this Theme Deck. Switching with another Attacker is logical choice if you have less Prize Cards remaining.

Mew is mainly here for Bench Protection since it's Ability Bench Barrier prevents all Damage done to your Benched Pokemon by your opponent's Attacks. This is mainly to counter against Empoleon from Unseen Depths Theme Deck since it has massive Snipe Damage of 120 for just 1 Water Energy.

Switch (Item) and Tate & Liza (Supporter) can be used to retreat your Pokemon with High Retreat Cost such as Groundon, Palpitoad, Throh or Seismitoad without discarding an Energy. One good example of using these Trainers is that after using Palpitoad's Mini Earthquake, you can switch it with Throh to get 120 Damage from Reverse Shoulder Throw during your next turn.

Draw Energy (Special Energy) is new Energy Card from Cosmic Eclipse Expansion. This Energy allows you to draw 1 Card when it is attached to your Pokemon from your Hand.
