Luxray (Rapid Strike) Deck

Overview

Luxray (Rapid Strike) is a very strong attacker even though it is not a V Pokemon. Its second attack, Scar Beat is the main reason that makes it a powerful attacker. This attack has Base Damage of 100 and does extra 100 Damage to your opponent's Active Pokemon that has any Damage Counter on it. In addition, you only need 1 Lighting Energy and 1 Colorless Energy to use that attack. In other words, you can deal 200 Damage to your opponent's Active Pokemon if you can put any Damage Counter on it before you use Scar Beat.

The other attack, Electric Slide has an effect very similar to Hitmonchan's attack Hit and Run (Team Up). The only difference is that you can choose to damage (40 Damage) one of your opponent's Pokemon.

The major downside of using Luxray (Rapid Strike) is that its Low HP (150 HP) since on average, most of the non-GX Stage 2 Pokemon have around 170 HP. But, its low Energy Cost and powerful attack, Scar Beat compensate its Low HP. Also, unlike V Pokemon, your opponent can only take 1 Prize Card when your Luxray (Rapid Strike) is Knocked Out.

Damage Counters

To deal consistent Damage of 200, you need to find a way to put Damage Counter on your Opponent's Pokemon before you use Scar Beat and there are quite a number of ways to do that.

Galarian Cursola V Ability Gnawing Aura has the great effect to put Damage Counters on your opponent's Pokemon in the early game. This Ability put 3 Damage Counter on your opponent's Pokemon if your opponent attach 1 Energy from their Hand to that Pokemon as long as Galarian Cursola V is an Active Pokemon. Since it is quite obvious that your opponent will mainly attach Energy Cards to its attackers, those Pokemon will have Damage Counters from Gnawing Aura.

Alternatively, you can also use Galarian Zigzagoon Ability Headbutt Tantrum to put 1 Damage Counter on 1 of your Pokemon when you play it from your Hand onto your Bench. But, you can only use this Ability one time unless you can put Galarian Zizagoon from your Bench into your Hand and use it again.

Rocky Helmet (Pokemon Tool) can also be used to put 2 Damage Counter on your opponent. However, this tool only put Damage Counters on your opponent's Pokemon, if it attack your Pokemon with this tool attached.

Set Up

Although Luxray (Rapid Strike) is a powerful attacker, it takes quite a time to evolve it (Stage2 Pokemon). Here are a few ways to speed up your set up.

Luxio (Rebel Clash) Ability Top Entry allows you to put it on your Bench if you draw it at the beginning of your turn. So, that means you have a chance to play Stage 1 Luxio even in your first turn and evolve it into Luxray (Rapid Strike) during your second turn.

Similarly, you can also use Rare Candy (Item) on your Shinx to evolve into Luxray (Rapid Strike) during your second turn.

Evolution Incense (Item) can be used to find Luxray (Rapid Strike)  form your Deck

Energy Acceleration

You need 2 Energy to use Scar Beat and it takes 2 Turns to attach those Energy Cards. But if you use Tapu Koko (Prisim Star) Ability Dance of the Ancients, you can attach 1 extra Energy from your Discard Pile to your Luxray (Rapid Strike) and use Scar Beat within 1 Turn.

Hit and Run

By taking advantage of Electric Slide's effect "Switch", you can also play Luxray with Lillie's Poke Doll. This might come in handy when you don't have a card to put Damage Counter on your opponent's Active Pokemon to use Scar Beat. Instead, you use Electric Slide first to deal 40 Damage on your opponent's Pokemon and switch it with Lillie's Poke Doll to prevent any Damage on your Luxray (Rapid Strike) during your opponent turn. Then, you will be able to deal 200 Damage from Scar Beat to your opponent's Active Pokemon during your next turn.
