Venusaur V Battle Deck is a deck with many powerful attackers. You can discover interesting game mechanics such as controlling your opponent's bench, healing and Energy acceleration etc in this deck. Most of the attackers in this deck has high damage but it comes at a price as recoil damage. Don't worry, there is a way to heal your Pokemon from recoil damage.
Indeedee is the best starting Pokemon in this deck. It can either accelerate Energy or attack. The first attack, Helping Hand let you attach 1 Basic Energy from your deck to 1 of your Benched Pokemon for 1 Colorless Energy. So, you can attach up to 2 Energy to your Pokemon every turn [manually attach 1 Energy from your hand and the other Energy from Helping Hand].
The other attack, Psychic require 2 Colorless Energy to use. This attack has 20 base damage and does extra 20 damage for each Energy attached to your opponent's Active Pokemon. In the early game, this attack is not that useful since your opponent's Active Pokemon doesn't have not many Energy. So, focusing on accelerating Energy to your high damage attacker by using Helping Hand in the early game. And only use Indeedee Psychic attack when your opponent's Active Pokemon has 3 or more Energy.
Similar to Helping Hand, Bede can be used to attach extra Energy from your hand to 1 of your Benched Pokemon.
Similar to Indeedee, you can also use Skiddo attack, Synthesis to accelerate Energy to your Pokemon. The attack, Synthesis let you attach 1 Grass Energy from your deck to 1 of your Pokemon or 1 Grass Energy. Synthesis is better than Helping Hand since it can also be used to accelerate Energy to the attacker itself. If you have Gogoat in your hand, accelerate extra Grass Energy to Active Skiddo. So that, you can attack using Gogoat during your next turn.
Gogoat second attack, Take Down has very high damage of 160 and requires 2 Grass Energy and 1 Colorless Energy to use it. This damage is strong enough to OHKO most of the Single Prize Pokemon. But, after using Take Down, Gogoat does 30 damage to itself.
Durant is good for early game since its attack requires few Energy and high damage. Furthermore, it is a Basic Pokemon. Its only attack, Bite Together has 30 Base Damage and does 60 more damge if another Durant is on your Bench. So, this attack has 90 max damage for 1 Grass Energy and 1 Colroless Energy.
Finding 2 Durant is not very difficult as there are 3 copies of Durant in this deck. You can either use Sonia or Great Ball to find extra Durant. Sonia is the best card to find Durant since the Supporter let you find 2 Basic Pokemon from your deck. On the other hand, Great Ball let you look at the top 7 cards of your deck and put 1 Pokemon you find there into your hand. So, Great Ball is not as good as Sonia.
By the way, you can also Sonia to find 2 Basic Energy from your deck instead of 2 Basic Pokemon.
Heracross attack, Push Down has 30 based damage and forces your opponent to switch their Active Pokemon with 1 of their Benched Pokemon. You need 2 Colorless Energy to use this attack. This attack is great for stalling your opponent.
For instance, if your opponent's Active Pokemon has high damage with enough Energy to attack and your attacker doesn't have enough Energy to attack, you can use Push Down to switch your opponent's Active Pokemon with their Benched Pokemon. Doing so, you will have extra turns to set up for your attacker because your opponent's new Active Pokemon needs Energy to retreat and switch it with their previous attacker.
Heracross second attack, Superpowered Horns has high damage 110 and requires 2 Grass Energy and 1 Colorless Energy to use. But, this damage might not be strong enough to OHKO some of the Single Prize Pokemon. To be honest, 110 damage for 3 Energy is not really a good deal. So, it is better to attach 3 Energy to other attackers.
The feature Pokemon, Venusaur V has the strongest attack in this Battle Deck. You can also used it as a early game attacker since it is a Basic Pokemon. But, there is only 1 copy of it. Its second attack, Double Edge requires 2 Grass Energy and 1 Colorless Energy to use and has massive damage of 190. Similar to Gogoat Take Down attack, Double Edge also has 30 recoil damage.
Venusaur can heal itsefl with Leaf Drain attack. So, you don't need to worry too much about recoil damage on Venusaur V. For 1 Grass Energy and 1 Colorless Energy, Venusaur first attack, Leaf Drain has 50 damage and heal 30 damage from it.
Yanmega is another great attack from this battle deck. You don't need a lot of Energy to deal high damage with Yanmege. You only need to attach 1 Grass Energy and 1 Colorless to Yanmega and then you can use its attack, Nosedive to deal 120 damage. But, this attack also has 30 recoil damage. Nevertheless, Yanmega is the only Pokemon that can deal 100+ damage with just 2 Energy in this battle deck.
In addition, Yanmega has no retreat cost. So, you can retreat it without discarding any Energy. When its HP becomes low, it is recommended to switch with your Benched attacker so that your opponent's Active Pokemon won't knock out your Yanmega.
As you have already known, most of the high damage attackers have recoil damage. And, if you keep using those attacks, the chances of your Pokemon getting knocked out during your opponent's next turn will be increased. Thus, you need to heal those Pokemon before their HP become too low. There are 2 ways to heal your Pokemon in this Battle Deck.
The first method is by using Potion. The Item, Potion heals 30 damage from 1 of your Pokemon. You can use it to heal your Pokemon during your next turn after you use an attack with recoil damage.
Another method is by using Eldegoss attack, Enriching Seeds. This attack completely heal all damage from 1 of your Benched Pokemon for 1 Colorless Energy. To use this attack, you need switch your current Active Pokemon with Benched Eldegoss. Retreating Pokemon like Yanmega is not a problem since it has no Retreat Cost. On the other hand, Pokemon like Venusaur V and Gogoat has high Retreat Cost and it is not wise to retreat by discarding Energy. The reason is that you have to reattach Energy to them again if you retreat manually. So, the best way to retreat those Pokemonn is by using an Item Switch.
It is not easy to OHKO Pokemon V in Battle Deck Format due to its high HP. Being able to completely heal Vensuaur V already gives you an advantage over your opponent.
